The only statement I can offer for this exhibit is framed within this moment of time where I am actively parsing out and reflecting upon these ideas:
When the premise is untrue,
How does one continue to perpetuate it?
What ultimately happens to the ones who desperately need to believe the premise?
WAX: THE MATERIAL THAT BINDS US TOGETHER: THS BODY OF WORK RELATES TO THE FASCINATION OF THE WORLD WE SEE AND THE WORLD WE DO NOT.
Genetic mutation happens as species evolve . It occurs when pollution and chemicals alter the cellular structures of bodies and grows to create cancer. Currently these changes are being manipulated rapidly as we alter the DNA structures of various animals and plants. We are learning to mix species with some success and it seems to be beneficial in medical research. Can we re-animate the brain of alzheimer's disease and stroke patients? What if we could manipulate the DNA structure of the human species to create a new species that thrives on carbon dioxide...Could the new species inhabit Mars?
Resolute, When you Know
Work from December 2014:
New works to be presented at Mac Rae Watson Gallery, Sanibel Fl.
When Roles Change, There is something that changes in the way you touch .
"She Had Always Mended." (2014)
In homage to a woman who made pearls out of the many things that brought pain. Now that she can no longer mend she has left us with the beauty of her memory.
Clay, encaustic wax, needle and thread, pearls.
'Her Many Responsibilities' (2014)
Facing the challenges of being a modern women in a world that requires nothing less than being the perfect mom and having the successful career while being the wife that everyone would want.
She Requires Discernment, 2013, Paper Clay, Resin, Post Fired Graphite Application. I am both fascinated and frightened by the possibilities that genetics offer us. Technology gives us so much but we must be able to discern what the unexpected consequences could be.
