Have a wonderful high school student working in the studio right now  completing  her senior project.  She wants to become a forensic anthropologist. Spacers are placed on the skull and clay is built up between the points.  Some areas are less defined: such as the shape of the nose, ears and the lips.  We will add ears this coming week.  When she is completed with the project we will make a plaster cast and then she will be shown an actual photograph of the person who's skull she has been working with.

insightful read into the process of Giacometti's work. painting and drawing approached  by sculptor discusses destroying something in order to create, finding openings into and through a work and allowing crucial time for process to proceed. it is  the  profound ability to walk to the edge of something potentially great and demolish it so that something never before achieved is found.

James Lord a friend of Alberto Giacometti sat for a portrait and recorded the process as only a friend could.

working on new ideas in the clay. wanting to explore the line between technology and discerning responsibility.  the fascination with our ability to manipulate the unknown is both exciting and frightening...where will our creativity lead to? what unforeseen consequences will be before us? what will it mean to be human or animal or plant or machine?

getting back to the studio...it was nice just to sweep the floor, gather my thoughts, sit down to the music of duke ellington, and draw in the clay. i will work small for a while as to gather my thoughts.

another rejection letter.  want to exhibit newer ideas and work but no luck yet...can't say if this is a good or bad sign, just have to keep working, i will make it anyway so guess the rejection doesn't matter except on the cv.

Have you ever drifted to the bottom of the pool and simply rested there believing you could breath in the water?  Of course you couldn't, but that magical thought  like that of flying  above the reflection of the water filled your body with the awe and wonder of what if?
