 How delicate the balance, how vulnerable , how close, how far, how much loss, how regrettable.
   Salt, steel, water and chemical colorants manipulated to create installation studies for up coming exhibit.   The next few images are an installation I hope to investigate on a much larger scale. I would like to fill the entire space/wall with these forms wrapped in filament and plastic. The shadows are powerfully beautiful as they flutter against the wall. The birds soar with elegance until we realize that it is plastic that swallows the bird. Pieces are sculpted in clay and fans are placed underneath forms to move the plastic and filament in the space.  Solarized Print of Cranes and Plastic
The student finished the work and was shown a photograph of the man... it was so close to the completed head.
"Her many responsibilities," was a look at the myth that a person can have it all. My generation thought we could successfully have it all...the challenge of managing a career and the responsibility of caring for a family. What is important and what is not? The complexity of being a woman includes these thoughts.

I was able to attend a lecture by Garth Clark at Penland School of Arts and Craft on the issues concerning contemporary ceramics. He discussed the future of clay in the Fine Art Scene which I will pass along to students. It has been something in the forefront of my thinking lately when I address young students and their pursuit of ceramics. The world is both larger and smaller because of the available technology. We should be embracing the possibilities as well as preparing for a new approach to our thinking.
